no prayers, only the repeated testing of our threshold for 
anxiety, humiliation, and debt.  The classroom just like 
the workplace just like the university just like the state 
just like the economy manages our social death, translating 
what we once knew from high school, from work, from our 
family life into academic parlance, into acceptable forms 
of social conflict.

In 1980 Michel de Certeau described an implicit dichotomy between production and consumption. On the production side were strategic institutions who had power, financial resources, and an established physical base of operations. On the consumption side were tactical users/consumers who lacked power but were more mobile than institutions. The awe which may have once greeted any one excellent work of art, is today more likely to be generated by the price it fetched when sold than anything to do with the work’s visual affect. How do we account for this apparent reversal?

Art, because of its uniqueness, and because it is the result of irreducible, complex human labour, never fitted into the Marxian conception of value and work – based as it was on factory production and its particular type of discipline. But in escaping that dreary paradigm, artists themselves have long struggled over the problem of authenticity and the commodity form and in so doing sought to challenge the separation between art and life.

Uitvaart van Robert Jasper Grootveld 19 juli 1932 – 26 februari 2009

Vrijdag 6 maart wordt vanaf 20.00 uur in de kerk van Ruigoord een wake 
gehouden.

Zaterdag 7 maart:

11.00 uur Verzamelen bij het Lieverdje, waar een banier onthuld zal 
worden over het leven van Robert Jasper Grootveld. Daarna loopt de 
rouwstoet  naar de kerk aan het Singel.

• 11.45 uur Aanvang afscheidsbijeenkomst in de Doopsgezinde Singelkerk, 
Singel 452.

• 13.30 uur Einde afscheidsbijeenkomst. Voor de kerk zal RJG op een 
vlot gedragen worden.

• 14.00 uur Vertrek van de vlottenvloot over de Amstel naar 
begraafplaats Zorgvlied. 
Iedereen is uitgenodigd met eigen vaartuigen mee te varen.

Hiervoor kan verzameld  worden bij de kerk, of in de buurt van de 
Stopera. Anderen kunnen meefietsen.

• 16.00 uur Aankomst bij Zorgvlied met ontvangst door een 
kunstenaarsgroep. Aansluitend begrafenis.

• 16.30 uur Einde begrafenis. Vertrek naar het voormalige 
Volkskrantgebouw, Wibautstraat 150, waar in café-restaurant Canvas
op de zevende verdieping gelegenheid is om na te praten.

We nodigen u uit vrijdag en/of zaterdag aanwezig te zijn & anders

Eccoci giunti al secondo appuntamento di “Interviewing the Crisis 2″ con Andreas Jacobs di Nictoglobe.

L’intervista di Andreas ha una natura del tutto particolare come potrete leggere voi stessi nel seguito dell’articolo.

Innanzi tutto Andreas non si presenta. Ovvero alla domanda risponde così “Ubi patria, ibi bene”, citazione che, come ho scoperto, riprende dalle “Tusculanae Disputationes - V Libro” di Cicerone.

La traduzione è “la patria è ovunque si stia bene”. Nictoglobe nasce nel 1982.

The RomaeuropaFAKEFactory competition originates from the “Freedom to Remix” initiative, promoted by [A]rt is [O]pen [S]ource (Salvatore Iaconesi/xDxD and Oriana Persico/penelope.di.pixel] and Marco Scialdone, with the support of DegradArte, ComputerLaw 2.0, NeRVi and Valeria Bochicchio.

RomaEuropaFAKEFactory constitutes a critical reaction to the "RomaEuropa Web Factory" competition, organized by the Romaeuropa Foundation in partnership with Telecom Italia SpA, subverting its logics.

The global dialogue on the free sharing of knowledge, on the new cultural and economic models that can be implemented using digital technologies and their infinite possibilities in adding value to human creativity using Internet's horizontal models, possibly identifies the greatest instance towards evolution of the global society during these last few years. And its reach is global, too, referring in multidisciplinary ways to politics, economy, culture, environment and to the societies of relations, work, bodies and desire.

These are the reasons why "RomaEuropaFAKEFactory" organizers couldn't settle on passively accepting the modalities through which the competition organized by the Romaeuropa Foundation functions. The Romaeuropa Foundation is an important, institutionally recognized, cultural operator supported by public institutions, whose mission (as can be read in their official website) is “promoting, supporting and diffusing contemporary artistic creativity in Italy and internationally”, enacting “a cultural policy based on diffusion and reflection on the contemporary art world in the european area”.

The “Romaeuropa Web Factory” competition promoted by the Romaeuropa Foundation and by Telecom Italia SpA substantially proposes young artists working multidisciplinarily on the web to submit their artworks to participate to possibility of winning a prize of 5000 euros in one of the provided categories: videoart, music, literture, production of advertisments. How? No remixing, mashing-up, manipulating of any kind allowed.

"Neoplatonic Nous and Noetic discourse"

The Enneads of Plotinus

Platonic philosophy and in specific Neoplatonic philosophy via the works (called the Enneads) of Plotinus sought to clarify the philosophical and religious understanding of the experience of consciousness. Consciousness in Greek philosophy being represented as the the nous. The functions of the nous being referred to as noesis. These types of noesis being multiple ways of knowing - including intuition, feeling, reason, and the senses. Plotinus taught a disciplined inquiry into the "inner cosmos" of the nous (consciousness, soul, spirit) and how it relates to the "outer cosmos" of the physical world. Plotinus as an proponent of Philosophical idealism taught that external world was a construct of the nous. Plotinus' use of the nous encompasses:

(1) First-person perspective by supporting individuals in the exploration and development of their own subjective consciousness (e.g., meditation and other spiritual practices). Emphasis on inner knowing and personal transformation.

(2) Second-person perspective by exploring and supporting transformative relationships and intersubjective consciousness (e.g., compassionate dialogue, community building, collective wisdom). Emphasis on transformative learning and collective wisdom.

(3) Third-person perspective by gathering data about objective physiological correlates of consciousness (e.g., research using rigorous scientific protocols, including experiments in psi, mind-body healing, and subtle energies). Emphasis on scientific understanding. These are the complementary elements to the study of the nous and it's noetic properties. As the modern study of the noetic subject in nous, noesis, noema via gnosiology covers multiple ways of knowing - including intuition, reason, and sensory perception in varying combinations.

Dopo la trilogia, parte il secondo ciclo di "Interviewing The Crisis" pubblicato: mercoledì 28 gennaio 2009 da penelope.di.pixel in: Interviste Web&Blog Tra il 25 dicembre e l’8 gennaio abbiamo pubblicato su ArtsBlog una trilogia di interviste dedicate alla crisi finanziaria internazionale. Tre tappe, New York - Londra - Torino, coinvolgendo nell’ordine Helen Toringhthon e Joanne Green di Turbulence.org, Marc Garrett di NetBehaviour/Furtherfield, Simona Lodi del Piemonte Share Festival. L’idea di un viaggio nella crisi che attraverso il multiforme e spesso sconosciuto “spazio” della new media art, nasce da una conversazione via e-mail sul deteriorarsi della situazione negli USA fra Helen Toringhthon e xDxD - artista, haker e esperto di innovazione tecnologica, con cui destino vuole che io viva e lavori da due anni. xDxD mi propone l’idea dell’intervista, che subito si trasforma nella prima trilogia. Il nostro obiettivo era analizzare la crisi attraverso le esperienze di chi “opera” nel settore, ma soprattutto interrogarli su una questione fondamentale: l’arte contemporanea (dalla net.art in poi) e i modelli (sociali, antropologici, economici, politici) da essa scaturiti possono rappresentare alternative percorribili con cui affrontare una crisi dalla caratteristiche “(eco)sistemiche”, quale quella attuale? Le interviste hanno avuto un ottimo riscontro a livello internazionale, suscitando l’interesse e l’attenzione dei media, ma soprattutto di promotori di progetti, network ed esperienze artistiche grazie ai quali siamo pronti a partire con un secondo ciclo di interviste. Speriamo con ciò di riuscire a mantenere una cadenza settimanale per le prossime interviste, che dovrebbero così chiudersi a marzo: idealmente un modo di salutare l’inverno e accogliere la primavera…
