Casibean, letters to/from my father 1942 - A series of enhanced photographs
These series constitutes of letters written on underwear smuggled out of 'Het Oranjehotel', Schevingen, The Netherlands *), the prison where my late father was imprisoned in 1942. Accused of being part of an illegal organization 'Trouw moet blijken', whose aim was to bring young men to England, by then the main military opponent of Nazi-Germany
Photo's I took from these letters are overlaid with handdrawings by former prisoners from the prison-cells
The letters, both to and from his parents - my late grandmother and grandfather - tell about food scarcity, the difficulties with dissapearing acquaintances and about the courage of a loving mother and father to their son
My father survived the war after being liberated by American troops in Nurnberg, Germany in April 1945 where he was imprisoned on accusations of espionage for the allied forces
I dedicate this series to the memory of my father Leo F. Jacobs (1919-1971)
